Secret report warns of rioting and nuclear war · Britain will be 'Siberian' in less than 20 years · Threat to the world is greater than terrorism
Mark Townsend and Paul Harris in New York Sunday February 22, 2004 The Observer
Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters..
A secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.
The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to its contents.
'Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,' concludes the Pentagon analysis. 'Once again, warfare would define human life.'
Washington — Revisiting the issue that helped spur her ouster from Congress three years ago, Rep. Cynthia McKinney led a Capitol Hill hearing Friday on whether the Bush administration was involved in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The eight-hour hearing, timed to mark the first anniversary of the release of the Sept. 11 commission's report on the attacks, drew dozens of contrarians and conspiracy theorists who suggest President Bush purposely ignored warnings or may even have had a hand in the attack — claims participants said the commission ignored.
"The commission's report was not a rush to judgment, it was a rush to exoneration," said John Judge, a member of McKinney's staff and a representative of a Web site dedicated to raising questions about the Sept. 11 commission's report.
The White House and the commission have dismissed such questions as unfounded conspiracy theories.
McKinney first raised questions about Bush's involvement shortly after the attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, generating a furious response from fellow Democrats in Washington and voters in Georgia, who ousted her in 2002.
"What we are doing is asking the unanswered questions of the 9/11 families," McKinney, a DeKalb County Democrat who won back her seat in 2004, said during the proceedings.
She rebuffed a reporter's repeated attempts to ask her why she would so boldly embrace the same claims that led to her downfall.
"Congresswoman McKinney is viewed as a contrarian," panelist Melvin Goodman, a former CIA official, said. "And I hope someday her views will be considered conventional wisdom."
Though she left the testimony and questioning of panelists to others, McKinney was the main attraction, presiding over more than two dozen participants, including the author of a book that claims the U.S. government had advance knowledge of the Pearl Harbor attack and allowed it to happen, and Peter Dale Scott, who wrote three books on President John F. Kennedy's assassination.
Georgia peanuts, Cokes and coffee were available to more than 50 attendees, whose casual dress was a decided change from the gangs of blue-suited lobbyists who usually crowd Capitol Hill hearings.
McKinney herself offered witnesses bottled water and found additional trash cans to place around the room.
Nearly a dozen 9/11 enthusiasts lined one side of the room, camcorders at the ready, broadcasting the hearing live over the Internet or recording it for later release. C-SPAN cameras documented the hearing, and a DVD recording of the proceedings will soon be available.
Ten people sat in a section reserved for family members of 9/11 victims.
"Nine-eleven could have been prevented," said Marilyn Rosenthal, a University of Michigan professor who lost a son in the attacks, echoing the premise of the hearing.
Panelists maintained that Bush ignored numerous warnings from the CIA, the Federal Aviation Administration, foreign governments and others who told him before 9/11 that Osama bin Laden was planning to attack the United States and that terrorists were likely to use hijacked airliners as weapons.
But why would the president or his administration want the 9/11 attacks to occur? Power, the panelists agreed.
In the wake of the attacks, the administration was able to greatly expand the president's power and the reach of the federal government, they said, but whistle-blowers and other potential witnesses who could have testified to the Sept. 11 commission about such things were either prevented from speaking or ignored in the commission's final report. Panelists called the commission's report "a cover-up."
"The American people have been seriously misled," said Scott.

A recent poll shows six in ten Americans think a new world war is coming: the same poll says about 50 percent approve of the dropping of the atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II. Somewhat inexplicably, about two-thirds say nuking those two cities was "unavoidable." One can only wonder, then, what their reaction will be to this ominous news, revealed in a recent issue of The American Conservative by intelligence analyst Philip Giraldi:
"The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing – that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack – but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections."

Today is the last day of parliament before an 80 day break. So if the government wanted to get those anti-terror measures through which were proposed after the 7/7 bombing, then this status of high alert is the perfect climate to get them rammed through without dissent.
Sky News reported that members of parliament could be recalled tonight in a special session for the express purpose of passing that legislation.
And what does the legislation include? Designating anyone who writes articles or puts out a website that advocates or gives aid and comfort to the terrorists.
So you have a situation whereby they could say that someone like myself writing articles accusing the government of involvement, has a negative impact on the public's trust of the government in fighting the war on terror and therefore aids the terrorists.
The definition is so loose that they could classify what we do on this website as aiding terrorists.
So now we know: it's John Roberts for the Supreme Court. The main focus of debate on the pick will undoubtedly be Roberts' statement on abortion, while serving as deputy solicitor general Bush I, declaring that Roe v. Wade was wrong. This is the only "controversial" angle cited by the NY Times' loving – not to say groveling – profile this morning, which then goes on to give Roberts an alibi, if he wants it: that he was only dutifully stating the government's position at the time.
But all of this is a smokescreen. The NY Times doesn't even mention Roberts' most dangerous decision, issued just last Friday, when, as part of a panel of appeals judges, he upheld Bush's outrageous claim of dictatorial powers: the right to dispose of anyone he arbitrarily designates an "enemy combatant" as he sees fit; in this case, sending them to the kangaroo court "military tribunals" he has concocted.
I'm writing more extensively on this case for the Moscow Times later this week, but here's the gist: Roberts' decision is part of an on-going process of elevating the president beyond the reach of law -- essentially a slow-rolling coup d'état, replacing the old American Republic (or what's left of it) with an authoritarian "Commander-in-Chief State." (Deep Blade has more examples of this process here.) How so? Here's a preview of the column:
The Christian Science Monitor Mon Jul 18, 4:00 AM ET
WASHINGTON - When George W. Bush ran for president in 2000, he sought to contrast himself implicitly with President Clinton, promising to restore "honor and integrity" to the White House. The argument seemed to work.
Now, in the public's view, President Bush is sliding into negative territory on that score. For the first time in his presidency, more Americans give Bush a low rating (45 percent) on being "honest and straightforward" than give him a high rating (41 percent), according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
It's not just the recent revelations about top aide Karl Rove - now known to be involved in the imbroglio over the outing of a CIA operative - that have hurt Bush. A range of issues are dampening the president's numbers, from his as-yet-unsuccessful attempt to sell partial privatization of Social Security to increasing public doubts over the decision to go to war in Iraq, says one of the pollsters who conducted the survey.
"We really didn't ask about Rove," says Peter Hart, a Democratic pollster who ran the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. "It's sort of a sense that nothing's going right, and that a lot of his basic tenets that he put out for the second term are coming up a cropper."
The Downing Street Memo is only the beginning of the proof we were all lied to.
Powell claimed that the Iraqis had 8,500 liters (2245 gallons) of Anthrax. None was ever found.
Powell claimed that Iraq was building long-range remote drones specifically designed to carry biological weapons. The only drones found were short-range reconnaissance drones.
Powell claimed that Iraq had an aggregate of between 100 and 500 tons of chemical and biological warfare agents. Powell gave no basis for that claim at all, and a DIA report issued the same time directly contradicted the claim. No biological or chemical weapons were found in Iraq following the invasion.
Powell claimed that "unnamed sources" confirmed that Saddam had authorized his field commanders to use biological weapons. No such weapons were ever used by the Iraqis to defend against the invasion and, of course, none were ever found in Iraq.
Powell claimed that 122mm warheads found by the UN inspectors were chemical weapons. The warheads were empty, and showed no signs of ever having contained chemical weapons.
Powell claimed that Iraq had a secret force of illegal long-range Scud missiles. None were ever found.
Powell claimed to have an audio tape proving that Saddam was supporting Osama Bin Laden. But independent translation of the tape revealed Osama's wish for Saddam's death.
Colin Powell's UN debacle also included spy photos taken from high flying aircraft and spacecraft. On the photos were circles and arrows and labels pointing to various fuzzy white blobs and identifying them as laboratories and storage areas for Saddam's massive weapons of mass destruction program. Nothing in the photos actually suggested what the blobby shapes were and inspections which followed the invasion, all of them turned out to be rather benign.
In at least one case, the satellite Powell claimed had taken one of the pictures had actually been out of operation at the time. And many questioned why Powell was showing black and white photos when the satellites in use at the time over Iraq took color images.

Give me a break. Four young men, maybe five though one chap remains a secret at present, simply decided to blow themselves up in support of a cause none of them had ever previously mentioned to their families, friends or anyone who knew them. Does that sound right?
In fact, UK intelligence agencies had never heard of these guys. They, the alleged London bombers, had everything to live for and no motive in becoming suicide bombers. Do you believe that?
Comment: It took many, many months after 9/11 for large numbers of people to begin putting the pieces together, to begin seriously questioning the official story. Today it is going on in real time. Researchers are taking the story in different directions, which is to be expected because everyone has their particular angle, and, human nature being what it is, some people will want to make a name for themselves. Add the disinfo artists that one expects in cases like this, and it will likely be very confusing to get at the real story.
For this reason, we need to be able to stand back and observe the London bombings in the larger context of the neocon designs on the world which appears to be instigating the "clash of civilisations" they so fervently promote. Whether "Greater Israel" is the final goal or just a smokescreen for something else, such as the annihilation of the Semites, will demand more work. We have our suspicions that the ultimate goal may be far more extreme than most people imagine, and may well have something to do with ethnic specific weapons.
Gary McKinnon has a lot to worry about. His job prospects are bleak. He will shortly have to leave his home in North London and could be facing up to 70 years in a US federal prison - a prospect that terrifies him.
His actions have been well recorded. Over a period of years he managed to bypass the security of what should be the most sophisticated IT systems on the planet, many of which belong to the US Department of Defense (DoD) and NASA.
That was back in 2002 and he has already been investigated thoroughly by the legal authorities in this country and released without charge. No one in the UK justice system considered him a threat. But the slow-working cogs of the US legal system have finally clicked into action leaving him hanging in limbo awaiting an extradition hearing later this month.
The unemployed UFO enthusiast was, metaphorically speaking, able to walk right in, look around and make himself at home in what are supposedly some of the most secure systems in the world. Although breaking into the DoD required a combination of ingenuity and hours of mindless drudgery, ultimately it was the "dangerously lax IT systems" that made it possible, he claims. And as for the "minor" damage to the systems concerned, it was not deliberate but happened accidentally while he was trying to cover his tracks.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. Jul 12, 2005 — Islamic leaders and peace groups are criticizing the California National Guard for a flier posted in its headquarters suggesting the United States execute Islamic terrorists with bullets dipped in pig's blood to deny them entry to heaven.
The flier attributed the practice to World War I General John J. Pershing.
"Maybe it is time for this segment of history to repeat itself, maybe in Iraq?" the flier stated. It was posted outside a cubicle in the Guard's Civil Support Division.
Hong Kong, China (AHN) - The World Health Organization is concerned that a deadly strain of bird flu, that has already killed more than 50 people in Asian countries might mutate into a form that can be passed from one person to another and create a global pandemic.
WHO spokesman Peter Cordingley says so far there is no conclusive proof of human-to-human transmission. "We have found a couple of cases that were very suspicious, but we couldn't actually hammer that nail home."
The H5N1 strain of bird flu has jumped from chickens to humans elsewhere in Southeast Asia, killing 36 people in Vietnam, 12 in Thailand and four in Cambodia.
Health experts worry that pigs could become infected with both bird flu and its human equivalent could act as a "mixing bowl," resulting in a dangerous, mutant virus that might spread to people more easily - and then from person to person.
JAKARTA, July 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A father and his little daughter have died at a hospital in the western Java town of Tangerang from suspected avian influenza, local media reports said Wednesday.
Iwan Siswara Rafei, a staff with the Supreme Audit Body (BPK), died at the Siloam Gleneagles Hospital Tuesday afternoon after showing bird flu symptoms, reported the Detikcom online news service.
His daughter Thalita Nurul Azizah died earlier Saturday with similar symptoms, it said. Another daughter Sabrina Nurul Aisyah, who was first detected with the symptoms, is still under intensive treatment at the same hospital, around 20 km south of Jakarta.
She suffers high fever and respiratory problems.
The reports were first released by Metro TV, which reported that the family suffered the disease after their trip to Hong Kong and India.
The Indonesian government has confirmed bird flu outbreak among chickens and only one person, a poultry worker in South Sulawesi province, was tested positive of the disease.
Well it was just a matter of time before they brought in the one-legged monster of all crimes... he is simply amazing, is everywhere at once, he must be able to self-replicate.

Actually, I am surprised it took this long: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi—the stuff of legend and ambiguous news reports based on third-hand information and wild supposition—is responsible for the London attacks last week. “Investigators in London are probing whether Iraqi explosives—possibly provided by Al-Qaeda’s top agent in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi—were used in last week’s terror bombings,” reports Yahoo News. “Al-Zarqawi is a potential source since there’s an unlimited amount of explosives and munitions in Iraq that he controls,” yet another unspecified U.S. official told Time magazine. “It’s just a matter of getting it out of Iraq and to the right people.”
Colin Deane – July 7, 2005 The near simultaneous explosions that rocked London today look more like the handiwork of the Zionist, British intelligence services rather than the phantom terrorist network, Al-Qaeda.
Just like the attacks on the world trade centre, such a well planned and executed operation could not have been the work of a highly decentralised terrorist network. Such an attack would have taken considerable technical expertise and large scale planning and communications.
Even the slightest mistake by the alleged perpetrators would have alerted the security services and every means at their considerable disposal would have been employed to foil the operation (Successfully). E-mails and phone calls would have been intercepted. Secret service agents in conjunction with London's four and a half million CCTV cameras would have followed the suspects and tracked their every move.
07/07/2005 London has feared a devastating terrorist “spectacular” since 191 people were killed and more than 1,500 injured in the Madrid bombings in March last year.
I found this Song on The&nbs p;Signs Of The Times. It's the best song I have heard in a long time, I invite everyone to check this out. It's worth hearing. These are the same folks who came out with the Pentagon Strike Video.
Happy Birthday, America
SOTT Protest Music Department The other day Bob Geldolf announced that artists participating in the Live8 concerts should stay away from criticizing President Bush.
Hmmm.
In a moment of fantasy, we wondered what kind of song we'd want to sing in those circumstances, the gauntlet having been thrown down as it were. They're a few things we'd like to say to Mr. Bush and his colleagues in Washington, not that he'd listen to us -- the Washington Post article about our Pentagon Strike flash didn't change anything and we're certain it caught the eye of the White House -- and to Mr. Geldolf who seems to be living in a lala land where mass demonstrations have an effect on the Bush administration. Didn't the millions of people in the streets prior to the illegal invasion of Iraq demonstrate clearly enough that Bush gets his orders elsewhere?
Well, the news today shows there ain't no hope for Geldolf's wishful thinking as Bush has declared he's going to put the US first, but we have never been enamoured with wishful thinking, preferring to look the world in the face and see it as objectively as possible.
Hence, this song:
You lied words & music by Signs of the Times
You told the world Saddam had chemical bombs To kill us in our homes, and on our farms You said he sent his men into the heavens big planes crashing down, September 11
You lied, You lied, People died, When Bush lied
I've got some questions, wipe that smirk off your face Betraying your people, that's a real disgrace See I'm having a hard time finding that plane that you said hit the Pentagon, bursting into flames Vapourising the aircraft, didn't leave no remains But the bodies appear not to burn quite the same
More lies Yeah, yeah, more lies America died, When Bush lied
And talk about mir'cles, did you see how they fell, the three towers in New York, those charges worked well Flattened out in a straight line, just like it was planned Did you think we were so stupid that we wouldn't understand And it's a pity about the folks there on Flight 93, Just as they took back control, you blew them to smithereens
You lied, You lied Heroes died, when Bush lied
You say Osama is living in a place you have traced But you don't go and get him, it seems such a waste Could it be it's because he's still one of your men A C-I-A asset just like he was then He endorsed your campaign in a last minute pitch Is he just one more man who has gotten quite rich
From your lies, Your lies Freedom died, from your lies
How about those Israelis dancing to their success, On the rooftops of Jersey, they created a mess So you sent them back home with a slap on the wrist Told the cops not to bother, 'cause they don't exist
It's a lie, You lied Justice died, when you lied
Now people are dying through your crimes in Iraq You've killed more than Saddam, though you don't care to keep track Cause they're only some Arabs in a faraway land That Yahweh has promised to his chosen band While Sharon and his cronies pull on your strings When he opens his mouth your whole government sings
His lies, His lies Palestinians die, With Bush lies
Next time you talk to your God, I've got a question for him What side is he on or does it change on a whim' There's a whole lot of people, suff'rin here in his name What kind of pyscho is he that he's playing this game It sounds more like the devil is guiding your hand Destruction and death are the plagues of the land
of your lies, your lies Children die, When Bush lies
You see, Mr President, there's something amiss Two elections you lost, but you overcame this By rigging the vote, not counting the blacks You've ensured two full terms, the dry drunk is back And now they're changing the laws to get you a third The brown shirts are charging at the front of the herd
of your lies, your lies Democracy dies, When Bush lies
The question remains what can we do about this Most people refuse to consider this list They're lost in illusion, can't recognise proof so we offer this song to all who stand for the truth
No more lies, No more lies Must we all die, Because of your lies
No more lies, No more lies Must we all die, Because of your lies
PRESIDENT Bush gives plenty of lip service to men and women in uniform. Now it’s time for the President to put his money where his mouth is and fully fund veterans’ benefits.
An official of the Department of Veterans Affairs admitted last week that it is short $1 billion for the current fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, but giving short shrift to those who have served their country is nothing new for this administration.
For several years now, the Bush bean counters have been slashing funds for veterans’ medical care. Playing cheap with those who have put their lives on the line would be a concern any time. Coming as the shortfall does as soldiers return home daily from war in Afghanistan and Iraq with horrific injuries, it’s a scandal.
The outrage on Capitol Hill is bipartisan, even though Republicans have continually thwarted Democratic attempts to give the VA more money under the guise of budget restraint.
